IBG SUMMARY 15/16

After an intensifying 4 days of IBG games, all Eusoffians seemed to have taken a good rest over Sunday and returned to MPC with electrifying enthusiasm and high spirits! Captain's ball opened the second last night of IBG with flashes of brilliance in every match. B block’s Bryan See Tow once again shone in his opening game, putting his “way too sick” ball handling skills on display. To quote a certain anonymous year 3 senior : "Please lah. Too sick liao." We wonder if it was perhaps due to him practicing handling balls every day (in the swimming pool with water polo balls of course).

Some say that Eusoff is made of tougher material than all other halls and this certainly applied to the chairs used that night. Eusoff Giant Shiah Leei was spotted balancing on the captain's chair while successfully catching many balls scored by other D blockers. After conquering the Takraw court few days ago, C block's Sue(perstar) Mae expertly demonstrated why she deserved to be a professional F1 driver as well. The concept of blind spots certainly doesn't apply to her as she threw a myriad of flashy no-look passes around. This is apparently very bewildering to A block Year 4 Frisbee veteran Eugene Teo as he proclaimed that she was cheating because she didn't need to look to pass. On a side note, Eugene also seemed particularly enamored by C block's Jia Ying as he inexplicably passed the ball into her hands despite being on opposing teams.

Special mention to another Eusoff Giant (vertically) from E block, Ben whose reach seemed to extend beyond the height of the basketball hoop. And thus, the reporters certainly don’t blame his teammates for being unable to see his long arms and resulted in many potential goals slipping away from Ben’s fingertips. However, only netballer Shi Ni and her perfectly on point lobs were able to let the goals make their way “sui sui” into Ben’s hands.

Residents of the White Chicks Hall complained again that there was thunder at around 11pm on Tuesday night and it was so deafening that they couldn’t sleep. But true yellow Eusoffians would say that sleep is for the weak! The thunderous sound was actually the sound of the Yellow Eagles' shoes on gravel as they sprinted across Carpark 15 for the second last sports event of IBG – Road Relay. Road Relay featured our President Jian Ler and Vice-president Yang Sheng in the men's race and Yang Sheng apparently ran so fast that he lost his phone along the way and was very sad. HIIT conductor King Hozy showed the fruits of his HIIT sessions with his powerful run. Hearsay that the potholes along Carpark 15 were actually the shoes imprints of King Hozy.

Next was the Women’s race, and Eusoff’s female runners demonstrated why they have long been regarded as the tankers for Eusoff’s achievements. C block's Olivia exploded from the starting line and took to the lead, Floorball captain EMA also helped to pull a huge gap for C block. However E block's runners managed to mount a massive comeback victory, with a combined effort from E girls Sabrina, Shi Ni, Jamie and Road Relay captain Tiffany.

When it came to the combined race, C block pulled out all the stops and activated their cheat code. A certain SEA games runner named Zachary appeared on the starting line. Then he appeared at the finishing line. If you check the camera records at Carpark 15, you could catch a few frames of real life Flash in action. We slowed down the security cameras’ footage by around 10 times and apparently saw him smiling while telling everyone else to “catch me if you can”. Some even say that Zachary back-pedals faster than people sprinting forward, so girls in Eusoff take note, this guy certainly has the ability to chase after any girl(s) he wants.

Last night of IBG featured the last sports event – Handball, which is also what some people know as a free hugs game. It was a bizarre lovey dovey affair as each block showed off their #oneusoff spirit by hugging anyone in sight on the court regardless of blocks. Eusoff Giant Shiah Leei felt especially loved as it took (at least) three guys to clamp him, but he could still be spotted flinging these guys away with a flick of his finger. A post-match interview revealed that he would very much rather it be three girls hugging him at the same time, but one cannot always get what he wants.

Eusoff Giant Shiah Leei is unstoppable! Not even two guys can hold him down!

Strangely, A block freshie Wen Qi seemed allergic to the intimacy of hugs as she much rather cut and weave her way through the outstretched arms of the defenders. This Law student showed great promise in Handball as she bagged goal after goal for her block. A certain C block freshie inexplicably thought a handball was shaped like a rugby ball and she dashed forward without even bouncing the ball. The referee professionally blew the whistle and called a travelling violation but this reporter felt that it wasn't just a travel but a (really long) journey instead.

Also, special mention to D block's Tyn as he had grown much more confident in his goalkeeping skills since his first year tenure as Handball keeper. There were instances when he grew bold enough to venture forward to 3/4 of the court from the goal line as seen from D block's match against C block. It appeared that he was challenging C blocker and Eusoff Handball Captain Justin Longme's ability to make long distance shots. Captain Long gladly accepted this easy challenge and gave Tyn the scare of his life as he heaved a full court shot over Tyn's head just to have it hit the right post. A post-match interview with Captain Long revealed that he was in fact aiming for the post to show off the accuracy of his shots and to show mercy to Tyn.

Finally we had come to the end of the whole IBG event! The IBG closing ceremony was held in the function hall and our Sports Director Shar(k)leen officially declared the end of IBG with Ryan and RIfqi showing off their “blowing skills” by blowing out the flames of the cauldron. Eusoff history had it that food is the only way to get Eusoff to assemble for anything other than sports and this time is no exception. E is for Eusoff and also for éclairs. Jests aside, numerous awards were also handed out on this joyous occasion! Shout out to Kenny and 2 IC Catering Pte Ltd, for sponsoring double meat vouchers to each block’s best freshies! We shall be nice and include the names of all Best Freshies, so that you guys know who to ask to help dapao dinner tonight!

Best Freshies:

A block: Timothy and Jacelyn

B block: Zhun Hung and Qiqi

C block: Junyu and Claire

D block: Qiu Guang and Zhi Yi

E block: Kah Hang and Jamie

On a more serious note, the closing of IBG also signals the end of Eusoff's first hall sporting event of the academic year. IBG has been long and tiring so here's a big thank you to all athletes and supporters who came down for the games and even sacrificed their weekends for the Saturday matches. All the blocks certainly deserved the awards that were given out at the closing ceremony!

Block Awards:

Most Entertaining Block: A block

Most Supportive Block: D block

Most United Block: E block

Best Dressed Block: B block

Champion Block: C block

While tensions ran high within the playing fields and things got pretty competitive, let us not forget that in the end, regardless of which block you are from, we are still one Eusoff. What happens on the court stays on the court and a team is only as strong as its weakest link. Let bygones be bygones as now that IBG has ended, a greater campaign lies before us – IHG. The Yellow Eagles will be put to the test against the finest other halls have to offer, namely the Blue Walruses, the White Chicks, the Green Turtles, the Annoying Oranges and the non-existent hall in red. Your opponent yesterday was from another block in Eusoff but today, that same person is your teammate. If you think your block cheering for you is rousing, wait till you hear 400 screaming Eusoffians bleeding yellow. Till then, SMC Publications shall continue scouting for our hilarious minions to bring you more reports on various sports in Eusoff!

Signing off,

Jingwen Lim and Jason Fong
