TGIF and it was indeed our honour to be invited for the Dance Preview-dancers-exclusive event last Friday night. It was the dancers’ first preview showcase and the reporters were curious to find out how much progress have been made by our very own pool of talented dancers within a short 3 months duration of practice.

Here is an interesting fact before we began commenting on the dance preview showcase, Dance 3 does not exist and don’t ask us why. (Come and watch DP to find out!)

DP is full of surprises, just like how the recent dance preview was surprisingly good (remember that they trained for less than 3 months!). We really enjoyed the fabulous show that they put up, with the dopest dance moves and the stunning lifts.

The highly private dance preview was held at the function hall. As we reporters made our way to the front row seats, the dancers started their routine warm up. Already, we see glimpses of the talents that would guarantee the DP tickets you purchase will be worth every cent as they moved to the beat in the midst of their warm up.

With no time wasted, round 1 of dance preview began, kicking off with a LA Hiphop item, choreographed by Han Rui. We saw dance moves such as “The Cabbage Patch” and “The Skanky Leg” (kidding, we just googled these) all in sync.

Dance 1: Ok almost all in syc

As the reporters were enjoying the performance, Softball superstar, Sean Pang came and sat beside us.

Reporter: “You not in DP this year?”

Superstar Sean Pang: “I am, but I can’t make it for some dance practice, so I am watching it now instead of dancing”.

Who dare say our sportsmen can’t dance or our dancers can’t play sports?

Moving on, the highlight of dance preview came when we witnessed the couple dance of the- year with printer-guy / the-gym-guy, Wafir showcasing his contemporary dance moves while super senior Jo Lin Tan got charmed by Wafir’s tender loving care in the midst of their pair work. That guy seems to feel very nervous maybe because all eyes were on him, or perhaps he was afraid that angry bird Jo Lin will eat him up.

Mr Printer guy, don’t be afraid of angry bird!

Dance preview part 2 started immediately as soon as debrief ended for part 1. The comments given for Part 1 dance preview seems to be working its magic on the dancers as they started displaying higher enthusiasm for their individual dance moves with much better expression. In fact, once the last dance ended their performance, the reporters began to receive positive comments from Han Rui such as “the dance looked way better than the first!” For your information, it was so good that Billy who was too engrossed in his dance went tumbling off the stage at the final moment of his dance! (You think no one saw right? Haha)

As the last dance came to an end, our very own dance head, Jun An, couldn’t stop smiling as he was very proud of every single one of the dancers. Cheoro, Hanrui, a DP seasonal choreo further commented that from his 6 years of experience watching DP preview, it was by far the best. Give yourself a pat on your friend’s back and good job Eusoffians!

In the meantime, here's a little sneak peak of what is to come your way!

Can you guess the dance move #1

To end off, we had an interview with our very own DP producers, Xin Tian and Girvan.

Reporter: How's your overall feeling about the first dance preview?

Girvan: It was great to see everyone coming together to put up the items. Everyone was on time and cooperative as well. There are definitely still many things to work on as a whole but it was a good run overall.

Reporter: Was there any dance item that deserves commendation?

Girvan: Dance 9. They took in many new dancers with little to no experience. It is very impressive to be able to put up a performance on par with the other items. Props to the choreographer as well as the dancers for being hardworking.

Reporter: Which was your favourite item?

Girvan: Dance 7. By choreographer LeeleeleeXinTian. It was so great that I started to stammer. I believe everyone present at dance preview was blown away by the intense piece and her immense ability to visualise and choreograph the item. It is as breathtaking as her piece last year and I am sure the end product will be equally if not more awesome. I mean... Wait is it my dance?!

Reporter: Potential talents as of last Friday?

Girvan: This year DP has one of, if not, the largest intake of dancers throughout the entire history of DP. There are many new dancers that I find to be really hardworking and dedicated. If I have to identify any potential talents in the whole DP, it will be Kiral, our Stage Manager for DP. Despite having little to no experience, he took on the challenge as a Stage Manager and he seems to be doing really well. Lights, sounds, GO!

Reporter: Any funny/weird/embarrassing moments that caught your eye during the preview

Xin Tian: The concepts this year are visually very entertaining as dance items. There were several people who tried on styles they have never done before and it gave us a new light of viewing them. For example, Timothy Mah, who took on his very first reggae/girls' hip hop item for Dance 4, looked like he completely enjoyed himself dancing such a bombastic genre.

Reporter: Anything else you want to say about the dance preview?

Xin Tian: We are very excited to see how the items progress because we have big plans of how the drama and dance are going to be infused together more seamlessly than previous years. Of course, we will need all of Eusoffians' support to make DP a success (literally, because we need the ticket sales), and truly, DP is shaping out to be an interesting journey for many fresh dancers, so we hope Eusoffians will keep a lookout for fellow friends who will be training hard to give everyone a good show.

TLDR; Dancers did a very good job for their first preview. This only meant that DP is gonna be awesome! So keep 5th Feb (Friday) free and come down to UCC to support our Eusoffians! Treat it as a bonding session for your block as well while you sit back, relax and enjoy the dance production proudly put up by our pool of talented and potential budding dancers.

Until next time,

HAB
